Hi, I have a gr.3/4 band and we use recorders, drum set, pianicas, keyboards, xylophones, chinese drums, African drums and whatever else we can get hold of. Is there anyone out there who also has something like that? It would be great to connect and exchange ideas. This is an after school activity and It started as an Orff band and.in many ways it still is.
We teach recorders to the grade 3/4 and follow the Recorder Karate book but we developed levels 2 and 3 ourselves and majority of our kids enjoy our yearly recorder' season. Kids queue at recess to take the challenge to achieve the colorful belts and enthusiasm is at an all high then! This is not an after school activity. Its part of the curriculum.
I teach in Concordia International School Shanghai and this is my 8th year! I love it here! I feel so proud and excited when, after a few weeks, kids go from squeaks to tunes i can recognise. My aim is to get many many djembes etc as possible so that many many kids can Teachers as well can play together!
