A Network for Music Teachers
Guest Educators Travelling Through Asia!
Ruth and Peter Chambers are currently employed as Artists in Residence in Gunbalanya, west Arnhem Land, actively engaging community members in music making.
They believe that this encourages healthy and sustainable relationships as well as promoting a sense of belonging and connectedness.The experience of making music for fun, rather than as a rehearsal for a future event, enables participates to benefit at both a personal and group level.
Ruth and Peter are passionate musicians and teachers who are keen to share their love of music making, including group singing, with others. They have over twenty years experience facilitating workshops which encourage full participation in a co-operative environment.
Their current program of musical events in Gunbalanya community involve people of a variety of ages, children and adults alike. They have facilitated song writing using local language, to encourage a strong sense of place and pride, and recently took a group of twenty community members to the Garma festival, a huge event celebrating Australian indigenous culture, particularly from Arnhem Land.
Ruth and Peter have travelled Australia extensively, working as musicians and teachers in a vast array of settings from bush communities to the Department of Justice, school and conference settings to Health Department gatherings. They have recently toured S.E. Asia, facilitating workshops in International Schools and performing for Community Aid organisations . They have taken their music to remote communities in the Pacific and to highly populated cities in Europe and Asia. They have worked as ambassadors for Australia in Australian Embassies, all over the world.
Ruth and Peter are keen to nurture a sense of place within others, and their original material along with the vast array of songs collected on their travels, reflects this notion.
